A Catholic Utterance

Today as I was answering questions on Yahoo Answers (I only answer them in Sports and questions directed at the LDS Church) I came across a questions of how to convince someone to not convert from Catholicism to Mormonism. The man asking the questions was trying to find arguments to give to his brother. His brother is married to a Mormon and seems as though he has accepted the invitation to be baptized.

Since the argument could last forever I decided to not answer the question. I am not well versed in proving Catholic Doctrine so I would have done a poor job any way. However, I did spend some time studying the topic to find out what my answer would be. It is a simple answer without the actual use of scripture (I normally make sure I quote scripture). This particular answer has a very relevant and important quote to go along with it.

Elder LeGrand Richards in "A Marvelous Work and A Wonder" share a short quote that I believe best give the answer. It states...

Many years ago a learned man, a member of the Roman Catholic Church, came to Utah and spoke from the stand of the Salt Lake Tabernacle. I became well-acquainted with him, and we conversed freely and frankly. A great scholar, with perhaps a dozen languages at his tongue's end, he seemed to know all about theology, law, literature, science and philosophy. One day he said to me:

“You Mormons are all ignoramuses. You don't even know the strength of your own position. It is so strong that there is only one other tenable in the whole Christian world, and that is the position of the Catholic Church. The issue is between Catholicism and Mormonism. If we are right, you are wrong; if you are right, we are wrong; and that's all there is to it.”

“The Protestants haven't a leg to stand on. For, if we are wrong, they are wrong with us, since they were a part of us and went out from us; while if we are right, they are apostates whom we cut off long ago. If we have the apostolic succession from St. Peter, as we claim, there is no need of Joseph Smith and Mormonism; but if we have not that succession, then such a man as Joseph Smith was necessary, and Mormonism's attitude is the only consistent one. It is either the perpetuation of the gospel from ancient times, or the restoration of the gospel in latter days.”

The Purpose of this Blog

I tried to get hired as a Seminary Teacher. It is my dream job. I was able to teach a couple of years but was not able to make a profession out of it. Every day of my life I think about it. The youth, the setting, the Amazing Teachers, and the Gospel knowledge that I was able to learn.

Because of that I have decided to start studying as though I were a Seminary Teacher again. As I was deciding where to keep this information I thought a blog would be the best. If you have found this randomly then have fun reading. I have not told, and do not plan on telling anyone, about this blog. It is simply an easy way for me to keep my notes and learning somewhere that they will be easily accessible to me.

I love the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It is my life. I am more blessed than I may ever know for the opportunity to be born a member of this church. I know that Christ lives. I know that he personally watches over the affairs of the church and personally cares for each of us. This is the way to return and live with him - the straight and narrow path.
